Arrivae’s trend forecast for 2023 is here! What we see is the rise of styles that allow personal expression, elements that lend to intimate and inviting spaces and homeowners continuing to make sustainable and environmentally friendly choices. Read on to find out more.

1. Curves

Rounded edges, arches and organic shapes continue to be a top trend in 2023, but not just in case of furniture. We will see this trend take over architectural details, built-in designs and prominent décor like mirrors and lighting to create softer and inviting interiors.

2. Eclectic Maximalism

In a bid to design homes as an extension of their vibrant personalities, many homeowners are turning to the more is more philosophy of maximalism and the rule-free eclecticism. From heirlooms, knick-knacks, dramatic furniture and bold colours all find home in one room.

3. Art Deco

With the resurgence of more expressive home interior styles of the 1900s, decorative styles like Art Deco are quickly becoming popular again. The contemporary version may not be as extravagant but elements such as geometric patterns, animal prints, bold colours and plush textiles are becoming mainstays in many homes.

4. Wabi Sabi

The Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi is all about embracing and finding beauty in imperfections. In interior design it translates as celebrating asymmetry, organic and unfinished surfaces, being intentional in your décor choices. The goal is to create spaces that are intimate and reflect your lifestyle.

5. Mediterranean Style

As more people lean towards incorporating nature and outdoors into their home, the Mediterranean style is taking centre stage. The architectural features such as arched doorways, exposed beams, indoor-outdoor spaces, minimal décor and a typical coastal colour palette are key features.

6. 3D Art

Use of texture and tactile elements is on the rise to create home interiors that cater to all your senses. 3D art in homes is a great way to achieve this. From metal work and heavily textured paints, to relief like murals and sculptural wall art, there’s much to choose from.

7. Wallpapers

Wallpapers are a great way to introduce pattern, colour and texture to your interiors— all key elements in creating visual interest. Whether it is intricate repeat patterns or artistic murals, we will see creative use of wallpaper — on cabinet shutters, lining reach-in closets and more.

8. Moroccan tiles

A visually impactful and versatile trend that’s going to keep rising in popularity is Moroccan tiles. The mesmerising colours and patterns are a great way to add a touch of whimsy and culture to your interiors. You use it for your kitchen backsplash, in your bathroom for a luxe hammam feel or as flooring to create a focal point.

9. Homegrown, artisanal, local crafts

With sustainability at the forefront, many are turning towards homegrown, artisanal, local crafts and arts. Whether it is textiles such as ajrakh and banarasi brocade, handicrafts like bidri and parchinkari, handmade darkwood furniture or decor showcasing art styles such as patachitra and warli, there are ample opportunities to add local and artisanal pieces to your home interiors.

10. Vintage Furniture

The use of vintage furniture is gaining momentum as a result of people wanting to make more sustainable and eco-friendly choices. Refurbished and repurposed vintage furniture such as trunks, almirahs and study tables can add a certain old-world charm to your interiors. Give it a contemporary touch and make it your own by refinishing it with laminates, a coat of paint or wallpaper or changing out the hardware.
