Love is a four-legged word, and it is time to make sure your home is a safe haven for your four-legged buddies. As a pet parent, you are probably well aware that curiosity is second nature to your pets. We are not telling you to stop them from snooping around the house. All we are saying is that there are ways to make sure they do not hurt themselves while doing that.
Here are 6 tips to make your home as pet-friendly as possible –
1. Baby-Proof it
They really ARE our babies, after all. Hence ‘baby-proofing’ is the first thing we can think of to make your home a safe zone for your lovelies. Consider getting baby-proof latches for your cupboards and cabinets. This will help you keep your pets away from harmful foods and chemicals.
2. Elevated storage
This one is pretty obvious. If you are a cat parent, you know how much they love pushing things off tables! While this naughty little act is quite adorable, it is an invitation to injuries. Besides, it will also end up burning a hole in your pocket.
The solution? Store things at a height. Now, this may work for your canine buddies, but it might not entirely stop your feline friends. In the case of the latter, your best bet is to store things in cabinets and babyproof them!
Simple enough, right?
3. Say no to low-hanging wires
Another no-brainer. It is common knowledge that our furry little pals love chewing and nibbling on things. Anything within reach can become a toy for them. Wires should be the last thing that they play with. Try to avoid dangling wires as much as you can, and it will be fine.
4. Scratchpads for cats
We can all agree that our feline babies are no friends of the furniture. They have a dominating urge to scratch things. Our job is to make sure that your couch, rugs, and curtains are not a part of those things.
The key? Get a scratchpad! It is a great way to keep your kitties satisfied, busy, and away from the furniture!
5. Furniture – Fabric & Colour
Fabrics like velvet, corduroy, chenille, and velour are no friend of yours. They are magnets for pet hair. You want to consider faux-leather or other synthetic fibres for your upholstery, as they are easier to clean. This is also where a good vacuum cleaner comes in handy!
Cheat: A great way to hide your pet’s hair is by picking out furniture or upholstery of the same colour as their hair!
6. Pick your plants
Do not get us wrong. We, at Arrivae, are fans of indoor plants. But not all plants are good for your four-legged children. Plants like jasmine, castor bean, English ivy, azaleas, tulips, chrysanthemum, etc. may be harmful to them. So, pick your plants carefully.
There you go. It is time to make sure that your home is as comfortable as it gets for your buddies!
